How it all started...
Calumet Street Christian Church started out as Hickory Street Christian Church in Centralia, Illinois in 1958. Two families from the area saw the need for a church body that stood on the principles and guidance of the Scripture alone. They brought in seven other families and bought an old Lutheran Church building and kept growing, until it became clear a new building was needed.
In 1985 they finished and moved into part of the current building, expanding it into its current state in 2003.

Expanding the vision...
The people and leadership of Calumet Street desire to expand our ministry vision and reach beyond our own walls, as Christ commanded us to do.
Centralia and the surrounding areas are a beautiful part of this region, full of people who need to hear the Gospel and Truth of Jesus Christ. We want to be relevant and authentic to a Post-Christian world that isn't familiar with the "christianese" so many of us raised in the Church are used to.

Where we are headed...
We desire to be Christ-centered in all things. Christ is our only hope and true guide in this life, the only cure for the shame that inhibits all of us humans. The only way to truly know Him is through the Bible, which is inspired by God Himself.
We seek to do what is best for the ministry, not just follow what we prefer. Personal preferences can become a wall, a way to impede authentic worship, ministry and relationships.
We aim to make a difference in the community of Centralia and beyond. We want to help those who need help and give hope to those who long for it.
