Core Beliefs
The following are the core beliefs of Calumet Street Christian Church based on the foundational truths taught in the bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.
God
There is one eternally existing God who has three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. He is the creator of and sovereign over all that exists, both visible and invisible, and is therefore worthy of all glory and praise. God is perfect in love, power, holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom, justice, and mercy. He is unchangeable and therefore is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
(Psalm 90:2, Revelation 1:8, Isaiah 44:6, Matthew 3:16-17, Psalm 33:11, James 1:17)
(Psalm 90:2, Revelation 1:8, Isaiah 44:6, Matthew 3:16-17, Psalm 33:11, James 1:17)
Revelation
God has revealed himself to us through His Son, Jesus Christ, who is the visible image of the invisible God, the holy scriptures, and through all of creation itself.
(1 Corinthians 2:13, 2 Timothy 3:15-17, Luke 4:18-19)
(1 Corinthians 2:13, 2 Timothy 3:15-17, Luke 4:18-19)
Mankind
Humans, both male and female, were created in God's image for His glory. The first humans, Adam and Eve, were created without sin and appointed as caretakers of the rest of God's creations.
(Genesis 1:27, Ephesians 4:24)
(Genesis 1:27, Ephesians 4:24)
The Fall
When Adam and Eve chose not to obey God, they ceased to be what they were made to be and became distorted images of God. This caused them to fall out of fellowship with God, and fractured all of creation ever since that time.
(Genesis 3:6-8, 2 Corinthians 11:3, John 8:34)
(Genesis 3:6-8, 2 Corinthians 11:3, John 8:34)
Salvation
Jesus Christ came to reconcile us with God. He lived a life without sin on our behalf and willingly died on the cross to pay the penalty for our transgressions. God raised him from the dead and now, by grace, offers as a free gift eternal life to all who follow Christ by faith, and confess Him as their Lord and Savior. That is why salvation can be found in Christ alone.
(Genesis 3:15, Matthew 20:28, Rom. 10:9, Hebrews 9:15, John 14:6, Titus 3:4-7)
(Genesis 3:15, Matthew 20:28, Rom. 10:9, Hebrews 9:15, John 14:6, Titus 3:4-7)
The Church
The Church is meant to be the visible body of Christ, sent into the world to make disciples, glorify God, and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ.
(Micah 6:8, Matthew 22:37-40, 28:18-20)
(Micah 6:8, Matthew 22:37-40, 28:18-20)
Ressurection
Jesus Christ is returning one day to judge both the living and the dead, to bring about a new heavens and earth free from sin and death, and to restore the paradise that was lost.
(2 Timothy 4:1-2, 1 Peter 4:5-6, Revelation 22)
